Natacha Aguilar de Soto directs research on Cetaceans and Bioacoustics at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain) and is a Visiting Scholar at SMRU (University of St. Andrews). Her main interest is the acoustic ecology of deep diving whales…The deep sea is the largest ecosystem of the planet, and different top predators have adapted their physiology and foraging behaviour, but also their communication signals and social structure, to fit into different niches. These adaptations influence their vulnerability to human impacts, such as acoustic pollution or overfishing. These impacts may act at the individual and ecosystem level, and for this reason another avenue of her research is the impact of noise in the marine fauna, from dolphins to invertebrates.
